Annotation The book contains black-and-white illustrations.
From The Critics Eric Jacobsohn This is an introductory text on the principles of anesthetic practice written primarily for clinical clerks. The purpose of this book is to provide a basic introduction to the scientific basis for the practice of anesthesia. Although the authors state that it is primarily written for clinical clerks, they note that it may also be used by nurses, dental surgeons, respiratory technicians, and other healthcare professionals who need a basic primer of anesthesia. The book is a 351-page, pocket-sized soft cover with few illustrations. This introductory text aimed at clinical clerks may also be of use to other students in the medical field that have contact with surgical patients. This third edition has de-emphasized chapters from the previous editions that were dedicated to subspecialty areas and has expanded from those areas dealing with knowledge of the basic principles and practice of anesthesia. There are new chapters on postoperative pain and outpatient surgery. The book is a useful addition to the libraries of academic anesthesia departments that teach a basic rotation in anesthesia to medical students and students from other fields.
