The Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods publishes research papers dealing with the development of new methods or the significant modification of existing techniques to solve theoretical and experimental problems in the field of life sciences, particularly biochemistry and biophysics.
Papers describing the application of known methods to solve a scientific problem are, accordingly, outside the scope of the journal.
The focus of JBBM includes the following:
Methodological Developments: Articles dealing with improvements of chemical, analytical and preparative (up to process scale) instrumental techniques, for instance in the fields of electrophoresis, gas and liquid chromatography (including thin-layer chromatography), MS, NMR, ESR, biosensors, molecular imprinting, solid phase extraction, sample preparation, microchip technology, bioarray, plasmon resonance, QCM technologies, and fluorescence studies. Each manuscript should contain a concluding paragraph which presents a simplified description of the method, its advantages and potential applications.
Reviews: Articles written as an overview of methodological advances. Generally reviews are invited by a member of the editorial board.
Educational Manuscripts: Educational articles describing methodological experiments in the above areas appropriate as laboratory work.
Theoretical Approaches: Manuscripts describing theory and characteristic applications with emphasis on recent approaches. The scope of JBBM also comprises papers on the interaction between academia and industry, as well as the impact of the technology on society, including ethical problems.
Apparatus: Since a new technique and an important improvement often requires a commercially available apparatus, JBBM also welcomes articles describing this apparatus with an attendant scientific description of the technique.
